Route binding ledges (cutaway)Smooth (Venetian or drop-shoulder) cutaways get an extra piece of binding where the cutaway meets the main part of the body. Florentine (pointy) cutaways get two extra pieces. Cutaways add quite a bit of labor. And they are more likely to break while bendingadding to the cost of material. Giving credit where it's due: the body holder was designed by Tom Ribbecke, and the router arm is based on a photo of one by Harry Fleishman. Luthiers are wonderful about sharing their ideas. |
