Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) comes from India. Its density is similar to Brazilian Rosewood, but Indian is more stable. Color is rose to dark purple-brown with darker purple-black lines. Well-quartered material is readily available making for beautiful and stable guitars.

Indian Rosewood produces a powerful sound that is deep, warm, and woody. Although not as visually exciting as Brazilian, Indian Rosewood has a beautiful elegance and formality. In both beauty and tone, it can equal Brazilian, and has essentially replaced it for most builders.
