F Gold Mother of Pearl
Gold Mother of Pearl

Gold Mother of Pearl (Pinctada maxima)—comes from from the waters surrounding the Philippines and parts of Indonesia. This is the same shell as white MOP. The gold part is found around the edges and the color only goes part way through. This makes the shell harder to process and therefore more expensive.

Gold MOP makes beautiful accents. Small fret markers of gold MOP are elegant. Like white MOP, the best pieces aren't just plain gold (as if that wasn't beautiful enough), but they have brilliant flashes of red and green. Because of its luxuriant look, gold MOP is best when used with restraint.
