Pau Ferro

Pau Ferro (Machaerium villosum, also Machaerium schleroxylon) comes from Bolivia and is also called Bolivian rosewood or Morado. It has a fine non-porous texture and its color ranges from violet-brown to a reddish brown. I prefer backs with a deep golden tan and brown accents like the samples shown here.

Pau Ferro is somewhat heavier than Indian rosewood and it has a nice tap tone. For a heavy-ish wood, it produces a surprisingly lively guitar.
